what's halal anyways?
The word halal refers to things being done within the rules of Islam. When people usually think of halal, meat comes to mind. Halal meat is slaughtered in a way that causes the animal the least amount of pain and suffering.
But this term expands beyond this. Halal can be seen as a way of life. Almost anything can be halal or haram (i.e. forbidden), including makeup products. Below is a guide that illustrates two common products found in cosmetics that makes it haram.
This red pigment is extracted from red insects. It's not halal because the consumption of certain insects is forbidden in Islam.
